A quite remarkable insight view of the bike race in Pescara from start till end on the 17th of September 2023. Dutch cycling athlete Sjoerd Bax won over the Italians but everybody had a taste of the typical speciality called “arrosticini” even during the race. Forget about only the water bottles being thrown at you from the supporting audience on the slopes; the real fuel was something else.
Besides the first place for the UAE United Emirates rider, who won with 4h35m32s at an average speed of 42 km/h, the second and third position are won by the hosting country. Simone Velasco and Lorenzo Rota did do the honours of the Italian flag in this Men Elite race in the city of Pescara over a distance of 195 km.
The hilly surroundings of the region of Abruzzo turned the apparently easy beach city race into some steep pushes up to the feet of the lurking Appenine Mountains closeby. Although this was the 75º edition and thus a yearly event, not too many press nor crowds were present which is a subject for improvement towards next year.
